Hot to Approach a HW and Hubby

Is there an appropriate way to approach a HW or HW & Hubby without being offensive and overly rude. Are there unwritten rules of the game that are generally more acceptible than others. I've been places where I want to make the introduction, but will not because I'm not sure what to ask or what signs to look for. Can anyone help me on this issue???
